Dog Food: Feeding Hungry Dogs

Hungry Dog

As we all know, there are many hungry dogs in the world.  There are quite a few companies with fabulous volunteers who work there fingers to the bone to try and get these dogs fed, vaccinated, sheltered and adopted.

Many counties and cities have local animal control departments and shelters. Often, these shelters run on a shoestring budget. Donating food to a local county or city shelter provides nourishment for the dogs and frees up funds in the budget for other expenses, such as veterinary care and adoption programs.

There are a couple of things we can do on our side to help out these fabulous people and these innocent dogs.  Many areas have smaller animal rescue organizations. These organizations are mainly non-profit organizations and rely on donations to sustain the pets in their program. Donations of dog food are almost always needed and welcome. It's a good idea to check with the organization before donating to be sure what you are donating meets current needs.

This site has a contest to win dog food for a year. Even if you don't have a dog, you can sign up and then donate the food if you do win.

The list below are all non-profit organizations.
They all accept donations via paypal or check.  I realize not everyone has the money to donate.   Remember you can always donate time, and/or supplies, to any of your local dog shelters.  I've never heard of any shelter turning away any items or any volunteers. Here is a list of things that all the shelters could use. Old blankets, towels, shampoos, dry dog food and canned,  dog playpens, dog beds, paper towels, heating pads, hair dryer.

Freekibble.com - All you have to do is answer the trivia question each day on the home page. Even if you answer wrong they still donate kibble to Animal Shelters to feed hungry dogs.

TheAnimalRescueSite.com - If you go to this site everyday, and click the paw.  The sponsors pay for food and care for animal rescues.  If you shop in there store they give more to the rescues.  You can sign up to receive an email each day, that reminds you to click.

Ahrescue.org - This is the Animal House Rescue, Inc a non profit, volunteer run rescue organization. We rescue dogs and cats from area kill shelters, have them spayed or neutered, get them up to date on their vaccinations and place them into forever homes. We currently have no shelter and run strictly out of foster homes

HeartsforHounds.com - We rescue dogs from local shelters and provide them with the much needed second chance in life. With us, they have time to relax, receive the necessary medical treatment, and find a forever home when they are ready. Our goal is to find a loving home for every dog we rescue.  We have placed 12,000 dogs since 1997.

RecycledRacers.org - If you can not adopt a retired racing Greyhound, but still want to help, then please donate a bag of dry dog food or send us the money to buy a bag ourselves (20-40 lbs bags are great!).  Your donation will help feed the Greyhounds waiting to be adopted and it will make a big difference. Recycled Racers Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit tax-exempt organization.  Were it not for the generous help of caring people like YOU, we would not be able to carry on.  Our fund raisers are not sufficient to meet the ever rising costs of keeping the adoption kennel solvent and the Greyhounds fat and happy.

BigDogsHugePaws.com - Everyone is a volunteer. All the money donated goes straight to the dogs in our care and helps to cover our costs which include transport, dog food, behavioral training, supplies, vet care, and medical supplies. Every foster dog that comes into our program is spayed/neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested, dewormed and microchipped. Donations keep us going.

Muttville.org/give -Mission: To rescue wonderful, loving older dogs from shelters and euthanasia and find them homes with people who love seniors as much as we do.  Donate its tax deductible.
